Kathryn Rummell Named Acquaintance Vice Provost for Academic Personnel
Kathryn Rummell has been named acquaintance vice provost for Bookish Personnel. She has served in this position in an acting role since 2020, and her permanent assignment began on April eighteen. Throughout Rummell'southward tenure at Cal Poly, she has held a variety of department, higher, academy, land and national leadership positions. In her current position, Rummell has collaborated across the campus to support employees in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, including serving in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). As acting dean for the College of Liberal Arts and chair of the English Department, she created new departments and programs to support student success, stewarded the first scholarship for showtime-generation English majors, and led curricular revisions that resulted in an increase in DEI offerings and requirements. Rummell earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in English language from the University of Due north Carolina at Chapel Hill and her B.A. in English from Middle College in Danville, Kentucky.
WSCUC Accreditation Squad to Visit Campus April 27-29
The university has been in the process of reaffirming its accreditation past the WASC Senior College and Academy Committee (WSCUC) since late 2018. Cal Poly Named a Acme Producer of 2021-22 U.South. Fulbright Scholars
Cal Poly has again been named a superlative producer of U.S. Fulbright scholars in the Chief's Colleges and Universities category for the 2021-22 academic year. Cal Poly'south 2021-22 Fulbright scholars are Barry Jones, emeritus professor from the Construction Direction Section, and Michael Lucas, emeritus professor from the Architecture Department. PAC Documentary Film to Premiere April 23
The community is invited to the documentary premiere of "Playing in Unison" on April 23 at the Performing Arts Center. For the Performing Arts Middle's 25th anniversary, the Foundation for the Performing Arts Center deputed a documentary highlighting the PAC's history, evolution and bear upon. New Grant Helps Faculty, Students Work Together to Support Aspiring Teachers of Color
In fall 2020, vii students of color preparing to go into educational activity sought a fashion to create a greater sense of community and support for their journey into education. Those seven students created the Educators of Color gild. Since its founding, the order has already made an impact in the local customs: members have organized an annual holiday toy drive for children of farmworkers, provided schoolhouse supplies to immature students during distance learning and purchased over $1,000 worth of groceries for farmworkers and their families. The lodge received Cal Poly's Community Service Accolade for meaning contribution past an organization in 2021. Annual CSU Student Research Competition to Include 10 Cal Poly Student Projects
X Cal Poly student research projects have been selected to correspond the academy at the annual CSU systemwide competition on April 29-xxx. The Food Science and Nutrition Department is offering free, individualized nutrition and health coaching to help participants develop new, healthy habits that promote personal wellness. Building 19 Dining Complex Renamed 1901 Marketplace; Renovation Underway
The new 1901 Marketplace is the adjacent phase in the renovation and update of the Cal Poly dining experience. Following months of campus feedback, the re-imagined Building 19 will be named 1901 Market, a nod to the academy's founding. 'La Perla' Film Showing at SLO International Movie Festival Features a Famous Alumnus
As part of a collaboration years in the making, the Latino Outreach Council of San Luis Obispo County and Cal Poly'south Office of University Diversity and Inclusion are co-sponsoring the showing of "La Perla," an iconic Mexican-American flick, during the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival at 3 p.m. Dominicus, May 1, at the Fremont Theater. Cal Poly Women's Chorus and Kitka Women'due south Vocal Ensemble to Present 'Slavic Sounds' Concert on May seven
The Cal Poly Women's Chorus and Kitka Women's Song Ensemble volition present a concert titled "Slavic Sounds" at 7:30 p.grand. Sabbatum, May 7, at the Get-go Presbyterian Church of San Luis Obispo. The Women's Chorus will begin the plan with arrangements of traditional Cuban and Latvian folks songs and pieces with a message of social justice. Special guest ensemble Kitka will perform arrangements of traditional folk music from Bulgaria and the greater Eastern European region. Kitka is a professional person small ensemble with deep ties to Balkan, Slavic and Caucasian lands. Its members accept performed, taught and conducted cultural substitution activities in Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Macedonia, Poland, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine. The concert will close with several Eastern European folk songs performed past both groups. The Women'south Chorus is conducted by Director of Choral Activities Scott Glysson and accompanied by staff accompanist Paul Woodring.
